General Relief Society Board Member Dies
CARDSTON, AB -- Ruth Doxey, 80, who served 12 years as a member of
the General Relief Society Board, passed away in Lethbridge last
Sunday.
Born in Cardston as Ruth Tanner, she was married at the age of 26 to
Clifford Walker in the Oakland California Temple. The Walkers then
moved to Calgary where they raised four boys and one girl. With only
two years having passed since being called to the Board, Sister
Walker lost her husband.
Two years after being released from her calling, Sister Walker
remarried. Her husband, Roy Doxey, and she served a mission to
London, England. She served two more missions - one to New Zealand
and one in the Canada Winnipeg Mission - following Brother Doxey's
death in 1992. Upon completing her missions in 1995, she moved to
Cardston where she resided until her death.
Sister Doxey leaves behind four of her children, 29 grandchildren and
six great grandchildren. She had asked that donations be given to the
newly formed Perpetual Education Fund in lieu of flowers.
