President Hinckley Announces San Antonio Temple

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- At a regional fireside this evening, June 24th, President Gordon B. Hinckley announced that he had spent the day looking for land for a temple in the San Antonio, Texas area. "We've come here to see about a temple." He said the Church didn't own land for it yet, but that he was "looking around today for a place to put it." He spoke about preparing and being worthy to attend the temple, "If we build a temple here, as I think we will do." He challenged members to be prepared and worthy to enter the temple, and discussed those requirements.

Elder David B. Haight spoke about the power and influence of the gospel in our lives. President Rex D. Pinegar, president of the North America Southwest Area conducted the fireside and spoke about how the temple allows families to remain together, and how we can take the spirit of the temple and carry it into our homes.

Outside of San Antonio, other outlying stakes and a mission district were invited to attend the fireside by way of satellite broadcast. Those units invited to participate are among those whose leaders regularly meet in San Antonio to receive training.
