LDS-owned Health Insurer Signs Generic Drug Deal
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators, the
health insurance company owned by the LDS Church that serves its
employees and those of the companies it owns, has signed an agreement
with pharmaceutical giant Merck-Medco for its Generics First program.
The program seeks to cut costs by introducing generic drugs to local
physicians. Under the program, first introduced by Merck-Medco
elsewhere, physicians increased generic prescriptions over identical
name-brand drugs by more than 20%.
