New Palmyra Chapel Almost Complete
PALMYRA, NEW YORK -- A new, 24,000-square-foot chapel for the Palmyra
Ward is quickly taking shape on Temple Road. Construction crews have
nearly finished framing the building, and are ahead of schedule due
to mild weather. "We're really thrilled with the way it is turning
out," said David Cook, Rochester New York Stake President. He
anticipates that the chapel will be completed by the fall, as planned.
The ward had outgrown the previous building, which was donated to the
town of Palmyra for use as its town hall. The ward counts some 600
members, including nearly 250 who come regularly. The ward is
currently meeting in a chapel in Pittsford, New York.
The new chapel will be unique, due to its location near the
founding-place of the Church. Its design will reflect the colonial
era, including a covering with tumbled bricks that look weathered and
stones placed at the corners.
