Even President Hinckley Searched at Olympics
WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH -- Security at the 2002 Winter Olympics was so
tight that even LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley and his wife,
Marjorie Pay Hinckley, were searched as they arrived to attend one of
the many events. President Hinckley was reportedly courteous and
cooperative while being searched by a national guardsman in a tent
outside the E Center in West Valley City on Friday, February 22nd.
But while the fact he was being searched may seem unusual, perhaps
more unusual was the event the Hinckley's were attending, a sport
known in the U.S. for its violence. The LDS Church leader was
attending the bronze-medal hockey game.
