Mormon 'Minister' Helps Prisoners Celebrate Muslim Holiday
KANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN -- At the request of the International
Committee of the Red Cross, the U.S. military allowed a feast of lamb
and sweets to be given to suspected Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters
held prisoner at the US base in Kandahar. The feast celebrated the
Eid al-Adha Muslim holiday, commemorating Abraham's willingness to
sacrifice his son Ishmael. Captain Brian Reck, described as a "Mormon
minister and chaplain of the battalion of military police guarding
the camp" assisted in the feast by passing out sweets to the
prisoners.
