A rare Mormon $20 gold piece was on display this past weekend at the
annual Utah State Coin & Collectibles Show, held in the Utah National
Guard Armory No.2 in Salt Lake City. The show featured coins,
currency, hand-held collectibles and tokens for sale and trade from
fifty different dealers.
The rare $20 gold piece, the most valuable item on display at the
show, was minted in 1849 as an attempt by Mormon settlers to produce
currency which would allow them to purchase goods from traders. The
coin, which bears the inscription, "To The Lord Holiness," is
currently worth about $60,000.
