RUTGERS, NEW JERSEY -- New Zealand native Mike Tompson, a 6 foot 7
forward playing for Rutgers had an inside edge when they played the
Charleston Southern University's Buccaneers last week in a first ever
basketball competition between the two schools.
Thompson played his freshman year at BYU, but left and went on a mission,
then transferred to Rutgers, as he didn't like the coaching changes at the
Y. His mission gave him the inside advantage in playing CSU.
He served in the Charleston South Carolina Mission and on his P-day he often
went down to the CSU gym and played with the team during practices.
Therefore, when it came to the game, he knew all the players well.
Rutgers won the game 84-71
