PROVO,UTAH -- BYU finally got their bowl bid on Wednesday, and as
expected the Cougars will head to Pontiac Michigan's Silverdome for the
Motor City Bowl. But the team will still have to wait until Saturday to
see exactly who they will be playing.
"I'm just happy we got everything worked out, and now we can go sell
some tickets," said BYU Athletic Director Val Hale after the news was
announced. BYU originally said that they had been selected for the bowl
on Monday, but Motor City Bowl officials said on Tuesday that they had
not yet made a choice. The Bowl was finally able to make their decision
on Wednesday to BYU's relief.
BYU's opponent in the game will be determined by the winner of the
Marshall University - Western Michigan University game on Saturday.
Unbeaten Marshall is a 21-point favorite in the game, and their presence
in the game would make nearly everyone happy, "A BYU vs. Marshall
matchup would be one of the premier matchups of the bowl season," said
Hale. Marshall is currently ranked No. 11 in the Associated Press poll
while BYU, currently unranked, was at one point ranked No. 13.
