LDS Church Might Need to Quarry More Granite in the Spring (Granite Mining May Be Complete)
The LDS Church's controversial granite-mining
project in Little Cottonwood Canyon has finished for the year, and
possibly for good, to the relief of the project's neighbors. Last week,
work crews pulled out of the site, which is providing granite for the
new LDS Church Conference Center.

Briefs filed for Mormon temple construction
The LDS Church has received support in
fighting off a challenge to a Massachussets law which allowed building
the Boston Temple. Neighbors of the Temple challenged the Dover
Amendment, the law that exempts religious organizations from some local
land use restrictions, last year. After loosing their challenge, they
appealed, saying that the Dover Amendment violates the U.S.
Constitution's doctrine of separation of Church and State.

BYU finally got their bowl bid on Wednesday, and as
expected the Cougars will head to Pontiac Michigan's Silverdome for the
Motor City Bowl. But the team will still have to wait until Saturday to
see exactly who they will be playing.

Banned BYU Fan enters MTC (BYU Bans Fan After U. Flag Brawl)
The BYU Football Fan who started a fight with a
University of Utah fan during BYU's loss to Utah has been banned from
BYU campus, but since Brandon Perry entered the MTC on Wednesday, he
won't feel the ban's effect for two years. BYU spokesperson Carrie
Jenkins says that he may even be allowed on campus if the MTC says its
important, [if it is] "deemed necessary by the [MTC] for him to come on
campus, common sense will be used."

Mormon 'King' Strang subject of documentary in Canada (Strang but true)
Toronto-based Lynx Images, which produces
book/video sets that explore Canada's rich history, has put out its latest
project, "Mysterious Islands: Forgotten Tales of the Great Lakes," which
aired on Canadian Cable's History Television.

Should Missionaries be evacuated over Y2K concerns? (Missionaries have wings clipped for Y2K)
Following up on reports that the U.S. State department will evacuate 800
employees from four eastern-european countries, WorldNetDaily's David
Bresnahan asked LDS Church spokesman Michael Purdy if the Church had
similar plans. However, Purdy said that the Church was unaware of the
State Department's evacuation plans.
