LAIE, HAWAII -- The BYU-Hawaii women's volleyball team moved from the
NAIA to the NCAA Division II, but in spite of the change the Seasiders
came away with their ninth national championship. The team returned
Sunday from Battle Creek, Michigan where they had played in the
championship tournament, beating Tampa in the final, 15-3, 15-12, 15-13.
"It felt like it was harder to get the chance to be in the national
tournament than to play the matches," said junior hitter Vanessa
Valansi, "Once we got there, I felt that we'd win. And I hope we can do
itagain next year."
The team finished the year 30-2, its only losses coming from
cross-island rival Hawaii Pacific University.
