Hinckley Book Falls to #42
(USA TODAY's top best sellers)
USA Today 9Mar00 A1
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley's book
"Standing for Something" dropped this week both on USA Today's best
seller list and on Amazon.com's sales ranking. On USA Today the book
fell to #42 from #31 and on Amazon it fell to #116 from #61. The drop
may indicate that the book's initial popularity is starting to wear
off.
USA Today's list is significantly different from the better-known New
York Times Book Review's list. It includes all books in a single
list, regardless of whether the book is fiction or non-fiction,
paperback or hardcover, while the Times divide's up its lists.
Amazon.com's system for counting best sellers is similar to that of
USA Today, but only count's Amazon's own sales. President Hinckley's
book has not appeared on the New York Times Book Review list, but
still may this coming week, since the Times' list is based on sales that
occurred two weeks prior to its publication.
The book has gained some notoriety among the press and was mentioned
in the questions asked of President Hinckley in his address yesterday
to the National Press Club.
