Hinckley Speech To National Press Club Today
Pres. Hinckley speech to D.C. press club will go live on Net
Deseret News 6Mar00 N1

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Gordon B. Hinckley is scheduled to speak to the National Press Club today at 1 p.m. EST on his new book, "Standing for Something." The long-planned speech will be available live over the radio, including Internet radio, and the previously written text of the speech will be available on the Church's website soon after the speech begins.

Rights to broadcast National Press Club speeches on radio and TV below to National Public Radio and to the C-SPAN cable network. NPR affiliate KUER, the University of Utah's station, will carry the speech live and broadcast it over the Internet using RealAudio. See http://www.kuer.org/spotlight/pressclub2.html for connection information. Other NPR stations could also carry the broadcast.

As of 10 a.m. this morning, C-span had not indicated that it would carry President Hinckley's remarks. Should it decide to do so, the remarks may also be available on the Internet through Real Audio at http://www.c-span.org/watch/.

The LDS Church has informed the press that it will release the text of President Hinckley's remarks on its website simultaneously with the begining of the speech at 1 p.m. EST. The Church's website is located at http://www.lds.org/.
