Will Reid be Issued a Mission Call . . . to BYU? |
A new article in today's Philadelphia
Inquirer suggests that a BYU offer to Philadelphia Eagles head coach
Andy Reid may be made into something like a mission call. Following
its assertion Wednesday that LDS Church officials were pressuring
Reid to take the job, the Inquirer quotes "a friend of Reid" as
saying that Church officials have been talking to Reid about the
positon for months now. |
LDS Church Officials Appeal to Reid to Coach at BYU |
A report in yesterday's Philadelphia Inquirer
indicates that LDS Church leaders are appealing to Philadelphia Eagles Coach
and LDS Church member Andy Reid to take the head coaching job at BYU. The
report cites "a close friend" of Reid's as saying that BYU has "mounted a
new campaign to convince Reid" to be LaVell Edward's replacement. |
Wisconsin Hopeful About Sharp-Shooting RM |
Ricky Bowers returned from an LDS mission in
Poland in May, and now has a spot on the University of Wisconsin's basketball
team. Highly regarded as a freshman at Ricks College, Bowers ability to
contribute is one of the few questions for the team. But Bowers says his shot is
there, and he expects to be in shape for the season. |
RM Moves On, But is Still Remembered for Kick |
Back at the Air Force Academy after a two-year
LDS mission, Dallas Thompson is well remembered, both at the Academy and
at Notre Dame. Thompson is a Rhodes Scholar applicant who wants to start
an international center to help abused children. But he is remembered
for a single kick in a football game four years ago. |
BYU's Smith Named MWC Defensive Player of the Week |
Tyson Smith (BYU), Jarrod Baxter (New
Mexico), and Dexter Wynn (Colorado State) were named Mountain West
Conference Players of the Week for their performances on the football
field last weekend. All three players earned MWC Player-of-the-Week
honors for the first time. |
BYU Cross Country Teams Repeat as Conference Champions |
Sophomore standout Lindsey Thomsen won the
individual title in the women's 6K race, and last season's individual
champion John Hedengren finished in second place in the men's 8K
event as the BYU men's and women's cross country teams successfully
defended their Mountain West Conference titles. |
Cougars Face League-Leading Rams on ESPN |
Following a much-needed win over Wyoming on
Thursday, the Cougars will travel to Fort Collins to take on
league-leading Colorado State on Thursday, Nov. 2. The Rams (7-1,
4-0) enter Thursday's nationally-broadcast contest after a 34-22 win
over San Diego State on Saturday. Though the Rams and Cougars met in
the first-ever Mountain West Conference event last year in Provo,
Thursday's game will mark the first time the two teams have met in
Fort Collins since the 1995 season, which resulted in a 28-21 BYU win. |
