Church Member New Principal

LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA -- Mel Fletcher remembers Alan Watson School real well. As its new principal, he may have a hard time forgetting it. His office just happens to be the same room in which he was taught Grade One.

A member of the Lethbridge Alberta West Stake currently serving on the high council, Fletcher is a graduate of the University of Lethbridge, where he gained his teaching degree. And he didn't go very far to start teaching. His first job was teaching on a local Hutterite colony. In fact, he landed the job even before he received his degree.

As a teacher for the Palliser Regional School Division, Fletcher has taught at schools all over the region. As soon as he finished his masters degree in administration from the University of Montana at Missoula, he became principal of Noble Central School. He worked in the administration of four other schools before finally switching to Alan Watson.

Fletcher is one of five sons of the late LaRue Fletcher &Elmo Fletcher. Elmo currently serves in the same stake as his son, but as the stake patriarch. He's also been president of the Lethbridge Alberta Stake and the Cardston Alberta Temple.
