Steve Young Leads Olympics Volunteers
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- Former 49ers quarterback Steve Young fell in
love with the Olympics during a trip to the 1994 Winter Olympics in
Lillehammer, Norway. With roots in Utah stretching all the way back
to his great-great-great grandfather Brigham Young, Steve Young was a
natural to become involved with the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake
City.
The former quarterback has been asked to head an army of 30,000
volunteers who will assist those attending the event. Young will also
emcee the presentation of gold, silver and bronze medals each night
during ceremonies in downtown Salt Lake City.
The trip to Lillehammer was the greatest cultural experience of his
life, Young said. "Salt Lake City is going to be the second-greatest
cultural experience of my life."
Since retiring from football, Young has married, become a father,
dabbled in football commentary, and co-founded an Internet startup
company.
