MSI: Dell, Hollywood, Cadence Push Mormon Stock Index Up as Others Down
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Increases in the stock prices of Dell Computer,
Hollywood Entertainment and Cadence Design combined to push the
Mormon Stock Index up 3% for last week, while the New York Stock
Exchange, Dow Jones Industrials and the S&P 500 all fell. The MSI
also outperformed the NASDAQ, which rose 2.4%, for the week.
Hollywood Entertainment's increase was perhaps the most important.
The company's stock rose 35% last week, continuing its recovery, as
investors rediscovered the stock that they trashed following the
failure of its Reel.com video e-commerce site. The site is still
operating, but no longer as an in-house e-commerce site.
Other notable moves last week were Iomega, which fell 16% after its
CEO resigned; 1-800-Contacts, which fell 16% and Computerized Thermal
Imaging, which rose nearly 17%.
