No Mormons Playing in WNBA?

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- In our continuing effort to track every Mormon professional athlete, Mormon News took a look at the rosters for the WNBA teams, and has so far been unable to identify any women basketball players in the league. In the league's first seasons, one LDS player, Raegan Scott, played for the Cleveland Rockers, however, she is now an assistant coach at Colorado State University. However, Mormon News was able to identify 16 possible Mormon players among those on the Canadian Football League rosters. If you know of any Mormon athlete that we don't know about, please send us a note!

Meanwhile, two Mormon players remain in the NBA's playoffs, Mark Madsen waits with the Los Angeles Lakers to see if he will face Mark Pope and the Milwaukee Bucks in the finals, or if he will face the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bucks-Sixers series is tied at two games each.

In baseball, both position players Wally Joyner and Jeff Kent both had off weeks, dropping their batting averages for the week below .200. Starting pitcher Shawn Estes had a great week, winning a game for the Giants against the Colorado Rockies and giving up just one run in eight innings. Relief pitcher Kyle Farnsworth also did well, pitching 2 1/3rd innings over two games without giving up a run.

And on the golf tours, Dan Forsman tied for ninth in the Kemper Insurance Open, by far his best performance of the season, more than doubling his earnings for the year. Senior tour pro Bruce Summerhays also did well, tieing for 10th in the Senior PGA Championship. Meanwhile, the Carolina Courage's Maren Hendershot was used as a substitute for the third straight game, and only managed to make it in the game for 3 minutes.

The WNBA's season begins May 28. We have been unable to identify any Mormon players. A check of those with likely connections (played at Utah school for example) was unable to even identify any possible players.

Wide receiver Ben Cahoon of the Montreal Alouettes is LDS, but we don't yet have a source for statistics on him.
