After 10 Years in Pros, Detmer Gets Big Break |
Ty Detmer, the former Heisman Award-winning
quarterback got a new break in his 10-year-old NFL career Monday when
Lions coach Marty Mornhinweg made him starting quarterback. Detmer
was brought to the Lions just over a week ago to back up starter
Charlie Batch, but when Batch struggeled through the first game of
the season, a loss to the Green Bay Packers in which Batch was sacked
seven times, gave up two interceptions and completed only about half
his passes, Mornhinweg decided to go with Detmer. |

After routing California on Saturday in Berkeley, Calif.,
44-16, BYU (3-0) earned a spot on both the ESPN/USA Today Coaches and
Associated Press top-25 polls. The Cougars tallied 114 votes on the ESPN/USA
Today Coaches Poll to rank 25th, while picking up 148 points to earn a No.
24 ranking in the AP poll. |
BYU-Mississippi State Game Cancelled |
Due to this week's national tragedy in New York and
Washington D.C., administrators at Brigham Young and Mississippi
State have determined Saturday's game in Starkville, Miss., will not
be played. A make-up date for the contest has not been determined. |

The Brigham Young University-Hawaii women's
volleyball team avenged last night's loss to Montana State
University-Billings by defeating the Yellowjackets 30-21, 26-30,
30-27, 30-21 in today's conference rematch. Tonight's win ups the
Seasiders' record to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Pac West
Conference, while MSU-Billings drops to 6-3, 1-1. |
