After 10 Years in Pros, Detmer Gets Big Break
Ty Detmer, the former Heisman Award-winning quarterback got a new break in his 10-year-old NFL career Monday when Lions coach Marty Mornhinweg made him starting quarterback. Detmer was brought to the Lions just over a week ago to back up starter Charlie Batch, but when Batch struggeled through the first game of the season, a loss to the Green Bay Packers in which Batch was sacked seven times, gave up two interceptions and completed only about half his passes, Mornhinweg decided to go with Detmer.

NEWSFLASH: Cougars Crack Top-25 After Road Win at Cal
After routing California on Saturday in Berkeley, Calif., 44-16, BYU (3-0) earned a spot on both the ESPN/USA Today Coaches and Associated Press top-25 polls. The Cougars tallied 114 votes on the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll to rank 25th, while picking up 148 points to earn a No. 24 ranking in the AP poll.

Cramer Make 10th Appearance With U.S. National Team
All-American Aleisha Cramer is one of four college players who made the 18-member U.S. National Team that will host this year's U.S. Women's Cup beginning Sunday, Sept. 9.

BYU-Mississippi State Game Cancelled
Due to this week's national tragedy in New York and Washington D.C., administrators at Brigham Young and Mississippi State have determined Saturday's game in Starkville, Miss., will not be played. A make-up date for the contest has not been determined.

BYU-Hawaii Sports Results
The Brigham Young University-Hawaii women's volleyball team avenged last night's loss to Montana State University-Billings by defeating the Yellowjackets 30-21, 26-30, 30-27, 30-21 in today's conference rematch. Tonight's win ups the Seasiders' record to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Pac West Conference, while MSU-Billings drops to 6-3, 1-1.
