Monticello Temple to be Expanded
MONTICELLO, UTAH -- The LDS Church plans to remodel and expand the
Monticello, Utah Temple starting next March, just three years after it was
dedicated. The first of the new "smaller" Temples dedicated, the Monticello
temple has proved too small for the demands of its temple district.
Originally constructed with just 6,800 square feet of floor space, the
Temple remains one of the smallest of these "smaller" temples, which are now
built with about 10,000 to 12,500 square feet of floor space. The renovation
will increase the floor space in the temple to 11,000 square feet, expanding
the building's dressing rooms, laundry and offices and adding new ordinance
rooms and a new celestial room.
Construction on the Temple is planned for March 1st, with the expansion and
remodeling complete by October of next year. The temple serves some 15,000
members located in Southeastern Utah and Southwestern Colorado.
