Elderly Members from LA Have Trouble Going to Conference
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- A disabled, elderly LDS Church member was injured at
10:50 pm on Sunday, October 6th as she tried to board a Greyhoud bus with
seven friends for the return trip to their homes in Los Angeles. Vitalina
Mendoza mistakenly released the lock on her wheelchair as it was being
lifted into the bus, and she toppled into the buses' stairwell, causing her
seven companions, all elderly women, to become hysterical. Mendoza was
rushed by ambulance to Salt Lake Regional Hospital. But Greyhound supervisor
Elmer Tauvao came to the rescue of the remaining women, giving them vouchers
to stay at Salt Lake's Sheraton Hotel and tried to give them tickets for
another bus. Instead, most of the women chose to fly home that Monday.
