Detmer Says Demotion His Own Fault
DETROIT, MICHIGAN -- LDS pro quarterback Ty Detmer said his demotion from
starting quarterback to backup on October 10th was his own fault, "I'm
disappointed, but I've got no one to blame but myself," he said. "I had a
great opportunity to play my old team in Cleveland and make something good
happen for myself. Instead, I threw seven interceptions, which didn't leave
myself very much leeway." Detmer had been given the starting job after a
poor performance by Charlie Batch, who lost Detroit's season opener 28-6 to
Green Bay. Batch now gets another chance at starting after Detmer threw his
seven interceptions in a 24-14 defeat at Cleveland, his previous NFL team,
and after Detmer lost 35-0 to St. Louis, dropping the Lions to 0-3.
