USF Loses to Utah, in Spite of Mormon's Record
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- Last Saturday, the University of South
Florida lost the first game in their attempt to beat three Utah
teams, Utah State, Utah and Southern Utah, but a Mormon player on
USF's football team set a kind of record for the game: The most
tickets requested.
Sophomore tight end Tommy Hunter is, according to Mormon News'
records, the only Mormon on South Florida's team. Like many Mormons
throughout the U.S., his family has ties to Utah -- apparently a lot
of them. Hunter requested 53 tickets to last Saturday's game against
the University of Utah, played in Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake
City. The request set a USF record, probably making his coaches
wonder exactly how big his family is.
One report last week in the St Petersburg Times suggested that
because it was playing three Utah schools, South Florida could claim
the 'Beehive Boot,' the trophy given to the best record among the
state's division 1-A schools, Utah, Utah State and BYU.
Unfortunately, as Hunter's 53 guest saw, USF won't get to make that
claim.
