Staley Leaves Cougars, Will Turn Pro |
With deadline entry date of Jan. 11 for the National
Football League draft, BYU All-American runner Luke Staley, will have
to tackle a career decision of whether to make a run for the Heisman
Trophy or declare himself eligible for the draft. BYU head coach,
Gary Crowton, claims Staley is still mulling his options. |

Staley to Forgo Senior Season at BYU |
BYU running back Lucas Staley announced today he will
not return to BYU for his final season. Staley, winner of the 2001
Doak Walker and Touchdown Club of Columbus Running Back of the Year
awards confirmed he will enter the 2002 NFL Draft. "I have decided to
announce now that I am forgoing my senior season and enter this
year's NFL Draft," Staley said. "I feel it is time for me to take my
skills to the next level and achieve some additional goals I have
established for myself. |
Nielsen Named MWC Player of the Week |
BYU senior forward Eric Nielsen is the
Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after
leading the Cougars to an 81-76 upset of 13th-ranked Stanford
Saturday at the Las Vegas Showdown. This is Nielsen's first player of
the week honor of his career. |
