LDS Man's Mormon Trail Hike Becomes Security Risk
NORTH PLATTE, NEBRASKA -- LDS school teacher Alex Meyer became a
security threat at the North Platte Regional Airport on Wednesday,
January 9th, when his hike along the Mormon Trail led him to wander
temporarily onto the tarmac. While attempting to follow the trail,
Meyer scaled a fence, not realizing that it was an airport security
fence, and ended up on the runways before he realized where he was.
While he immediately tried to exit the airport, he was spotted and
National Guard troops detained him. Meyer was not arrested, and
seemed remorseful, "I think he just wanted to be invisible," said
North Platte Police Officer Zack Peters. "He just wasn't thinking."
Myers was dropped off on the highway, where he said he would continue
his hike.
