Interest in Nauvoo Temple Growing
NAUVOO, ILLINOIS -- Interest from neighbors in the Nauvoo Temple, now
under construction, is growing, says a local historian. John Hallwas
says that the new building will "add significantly to the historical
attractiveness of the community of Nauvoo. It was very carefully
done." At least 35,000 people from Illinois have ordered tickets to
see the temple, followed by another 25,000 from Iowa. The town could
see seven to 10 times its 1,063 people visit each day during the open
house, and may swell to a temporary population of 20,000 -- the same
level it saw during the height of its Mormon history. Already the LDS
Church has given out all 250,000 tickets for the open house, which
runs from May 18 to June 22. The temple should be complete in April
or early May and plans an open house ahead of its dedication,
scheduled for June 27th.
