Coming off a 6-20 season last year, UC Irvine's basketball program has
gotten a big boost with the addition of two big men to shore up their
center. One of the two is LDS player Greg Ethington, a 6-8 freshman from
Arizona. Ethington averaged 14 points and nine rebounds at Gilbert High
last year.
Ethington had originally signed with Pepperdine, but switched when
Pepperdine coach Lorenzo Romar left the school. Irvine Coach Pat
Douglass is pleased to have Ethington, even if it is only for one year.
Ethington plans to serve an LDS mission, and hasn't decided if he will
return to Irvine or not. "We will actively recruit him while he is
here," said coach Douglass.
