ex-LDS high priest sentenced in molestation |
Former LDS Church member Gene A. Guinn, 68, was
convicted Wednesday of indecency with a child and sentenced to 68
years in prison. Since Guinn will not be eligible for parole until
half his sentence has been served, the sentence is effectively for
the rest of his life. Guinn was excommunicated from the LDS Church
because of the offense. |
Former LDS Missionary Sentenced in Beating Death of His Wife |
Daniel Mackay, 44, was sentenced Friday to
seven years in prison more than three months after he was convicted of the
April 1998 crime. Prosecutors were disappointed with the sentence, which
fell short of the maximum 12 year sentence they asked for. |

Mormons give Catholics boost |
A Catholic school in Tucson is receiving help from
the LDS Church. In order to commemorate the settling of the Salt Lake
Valley in 1847, the LDS Church engages in community service projects.
This year, 100 volunteers in Tucson painted and cleaned Sata Cruz
Catholic School on 22nd Street and South Sixth Avenue. |
Ricks Art Department Moving Downtown |
The Art Department at Ricks College will be moving
downtown this summer as the college vacates the Spori Building in
anticipation for it being torn down later in the year. Because there
was no room on campus, the Art Department will be based at 16 E. Main
St. |
