  ex-LDS high priest sentenced in molestation
Former LDS Church member Gene A. Guinn, 68, was convicted Wednesday of indecency with a child and sentenced to 68 years in prison. Since Guinn will not be eligible for parole until half his sentence has been served, the sentence is effectively for the rest of his life. Guinn was excommunicated from the LDS Church because of the offense.

  Former LDS Missionary Sentenced in Beating Death of His Wife
Daniel Mackay, 44, was sentenced Friday to seven years in prison more than three months after he was convicted of the April 1998 crime. Prosecutors were disappointed with the sentence, which fell short of the maximum 12 year sentence they asked for.

  Columnist Fascinated by Mormons
Elizabeth Nickson, a columnist for the National Post is quoted as having "preferences, for instance I favour Charismatics, but I adore blood-of-the-lamb Baptists too and confess to being fascinated by Mormons."

Christopher Bourne, 16, and a member of the Raymond Alberta Stake, was in the prime of his youth. Nearly finished high school, had a good family, loved his job, and had many friends.

  Mormons give Catholics boost
A Catholic school in Tucson is receiving help from the LDS Church. In order to commemorate the settling of the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, the LDS Church engages in community service projects. This year, 100 volunteers in Tucson painted and cleaned Sata Cruz Catholic School on 22nd Street and South Sixth Avenue.

  Ricks Art Department Moving Downtown
The Art Department at Ricks College will be moving downtown this summer as the college vacates the Spori Building in anticipation for it being torn down later in the year. Because there was no room on campus, the Art Department will be based at 16 E. Main St.

  BYU Professor of religion to speak on history of Nauvoo Temple
The history and rebuilding of the Latter-day Saint Nauvoo Temple will be the subject of a forum held at Brigham Young University Tuesday (July 25) at 11 a.m. in the Joseph Smith Auditorium.
