LDS Church Closes Both Temple Square Visitors Centers for Renovation
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- In preparation for the upcoming 2002 Winter
Olympics, the LDS Church has closed both Visitors Centers on Temple
Square for renovations. The centers should reopen before October's
General Conference, according to the renovation plan.
The Square's South Visitor Center closed after Christmas, and the
North Visitor Center closed about a week ago, taking advantage of the
slow Winter season after the holiday. However, since Temple Square is
the largest tourist attraction in Utah, and since the closing will be
during the busy summer season, many visitors will miss seeing the
Centers.
The renovations will add new exhibits to the Centers, including a
living prophets exhibit, a welfare exhibit, an exhibit on Christ's
teachings about service, and a large 3-D electronic map of Jerusalem.
