Church Gets Wide Coverage of Freedman's Bank CD-ROM Release |
The LDS Church got wide coverage for its release yesterday
of a CD-ROM containing financial and family information on about 480,000
depositors in the short-lived Freedman's Bank. The Church held a 13-city
press event at 12:30 yesterday (EST). According to Mormon News correspondent
Christopher Rosche, more than 100 guests attended the event at Washington's
National Press Club, and many others attended events in 12 other cities:
Salt Lake City, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Oakland, Denver,
Houston, Dallas, Raleigh, Miami, and St. Louis. |

The Philippines Sun-Star looked at the LDS Church's
genealogy resources in today's edition, finding an LDS Family History Center
next to the Manila LDS Temple, and the Church's FamilySearch.org site on the
Internet. The article describes the information available at both the center
and on the website, including what information is available on people that
lived in the Philippines. |
Muskoka Missionaries Featured |
Since it had been ten years since sister
missionaries were assigned to Muskoka, Tamara de la Vega, a reporter
for the Hunstville Forester, decided she better see what's up. Sister
Leisa Newton, 21, of Columbus, Ohio, and Jessica Bryer, 22, were the
two she interviewed. Newton and Bryer explained the purpose of a
mission, and some of the ups and downs of it. |
John Cobbinah to discuss Church in Africa on March 1 |
John Cobbinah, who helped organize branches of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ghana before
missionaries arrived, will speak at Brigham Young University on
Thursday (March 1) in 2265 BYU Conference Center at 7:30 p.m. |
