LDS Stress Expert's E-Book Free After Terrorist Attacks

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Stress management expert Dr. Glenn R. Schiraldi's book, "The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Sourcebook: A Guide to Healing, Recovery and Growth," will be available free on the Internet starting tomorrow, courtesy of the book's publisher, McGraw-Hill. Schiraldi, an LDS Church member and faculty member at the University of Maryland, College Park, is the author of several books on mental and physical health. The 441-page book is available in several e-book formats, including Adobe Acrobat and Peanut Press, from Amazon.com, McGraw-Hill, Contentville and Adobe's eBookstore.

McGraw-Hill decided to release the book free following the September 11th terrorist attacks onthe World Trade Center and the Pentagon, hoping that the book will help alleviate the widespread anxiety, stress and trauma experienced after the attack. First releaed in print in February 2000, the book is a comprehensive guide to stress disorders and includes specific information about each disorder. It also gives a thorough guide to how to find a therapist for each disorder and lists resources that may be appropriate for stress disorders.

Unlike many psychology and therapeutic guides, the book also includes information on spiritual and religious growth. It also covers information on managing symptoms, treatment approaches, understanding anxiety, healing imagery, grieving losses, life review, meditation, transitioning, resolving anger, and relapse prevention.

Schiraldi is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and of BYU, where he received a Masters in Health Education Summa Cum Laude and was Valedictorian. He has since recieved a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, where he joined the faculty in 1983. In addition to "The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Sourcebook," Schiraldi has written many other books including "The Self-Esteem Workbook," "Building Self Esteem: A 125 Day Program," and "Stress Management Strategies."
