Sports: Detmer Disaster, But Baseball Pitching Strong

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Given a chance to start with the Detroit Lions last week, LDS quarterback Ty Detmer quickly ran into trouble, and ended up giving up seven interceptions in his team's loss to the Cleveland Browns. But while Detmer's troubles were the most notable of the week, other action, including strong performances from several LDS pitchers, was more productive.

LDS starting pitchers Brandon Duckworth, Shawn Estes, Roy Halladay all turned in great performances, with Estes blanking San Diego over six innings and Duckworth and Halladay earning ERAs of less than 1.5. Relief pitchers and other starters didn't perform as well, the worst coming from Omar Olivares who gave up 7 earned runs in two innings over three games, getting a 31.50 ERA.

Meanwhile, a quirky situation developed in golf with Richard Zokol of the Buy.com tour, the PGA's 'minor league' earning more for his 9th-place tie in the Boise Open than any other Mormon golfer.
