Latter-day Saints in Municipal Elections
LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA, CANADA -- In what's starting to become a reflection of
provincial elections six months ago, Latter-day Saints are starting to come
out of the woodwork for the 2001 Alberta municipal elections.
In Canadian provinces, all the municipalities in one province hold their
civic elections on the same day. Election day for Alberta is 15 October
2001, and we're already up to five Latter-day Saints who have been reported
to be running.
Four of the candidates are running for aldermanic positions in Lethbridge.
The aldermanic race in this city of 68,000 people and three stakes is at a
local record of 35 candidates.
Ryan Parker, the only LDS incumbent running in Lethbridge, is a member of
the Lethbridge East Stake. Bev Elliott, Jason Isfeld, and Kim Siever are all
members of the Lethbridge Alberta West Stake.
As for the only other LDS candidate reported thus far, Craig Schindler
rounds up the five as an aldermanic candidate in Cardston.
If you know of any other Latter-day Saints running for mayoral or aldermanic
offices this years, please contact LDSCaNews.
