Brigham Young's Jason Lamb Selected to Coach 2002 USA West All-Star Team

CHICO, CALIFORNIA -- USA West Lacrosse has announced that Brigham Young University head coach Jason Lamb has been selected as head coach of the 2002 USA West College All-Star Team. The team will scrimmage Team USA at Pepperdine in late June before traveling to Perth, Australia to compete in the Australian Senior Championships and in pre-World Championships scrimmages against several national teams as they prepare for the World Championships. The team will also compete in the International Open Tournament at the World Championships, which are in Perth July 5 -14.

Lamb has led the Brigham Young men's lacrosse team to a 109-29 record in his seven years at the helm. His Cougars have won four RMILL conference championships and two USLIA National Championships in 1997 and 2000. Lamb also serves as the President of the United States Lacrosse Men's Division Intercollegiate Associates (USLIA) Executive Board.

"This is a tremendous honor," said Lamb. "We're looking forward to assembling the best USA West team ever."

Joining Lamb as USA West assistant coach will be University of Michigan head coach John Paul. In five seasons at Michigan Paul has led the Wolverines to a 73-17 record, with three consecutive CCLA championships and USLIA National Championship Tournament berths in the past three years.

Steve Dini, Executive Director of USA West Lacrosse and head coach at Chico State, will serve as a second assistant and general manager. "We are thrilled not only with the staff we've secured for this year's team, but also with the opportunity we have to scrimmage Team USA and to participate in Perth," said Dini.

USA West Lacrosse promotes lacrosse players from outside of the traditional hotbeds of the sport. Athletes eligible for selection are elite-level USLIA players, NCAA players from select varsity programs in Western conferences and locales, and NCAA players at Eastern varsity programs who played high school lacrosse in the West.

Over the past two years USA West All-Star teams have competed in Japan, England and the Czech Republic. They won the International Friendship Games in Tokyo in 2000 and the 2001 Prague Cup. The team also boasts impressive wins over the English, Welsh and Irish national teams in the summer of 2001.

The 2002 team will be selected from a pool of applicants being solicited now. The team will be announced December 17, 2001.
