New Products: Mormon News Brings New Products Listing Back
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- After a hiatus of several weeks, Mormon News is
bringing back its weekly listing of new Mormon books and other products.
Today's list includes both a recent nationally published book by an LDS
author, Laurel Thatcher Ulrich's "The Age of Homespun," as well as a host of
new items from major LDS publishers. Of particular note are a number of
doctrinal books and Excel Entertainment's first move to publish books in
addition to its traditional music.
Ulrich's "The Age of Homespun" was given a very positive review in the New
York Times Book Review, leading me to wonder if it won't be as prize-winning
as Ulrich's "Midwife's Tale" which won the pulitzer prize in 1992. "My
People" by Gordon Laws is notable for its connection to BYU's Family Studies
Center and for the claim that it is written to be "easily transferred to
film." Excel has recently built a business of distributing films, and both
this book and its forthcoming series of books based on Richard Dutcher's
"God's Army" have film ties.
