The Result of Turley's Righteous Rockwell-like Rage |
Kyle Turley was surrounded by an overflow crowd
that gathered for his weekly radio show at Deanie's Seafood restaurant in
Bucktown, Louisiana. They wanted to hear his side of the story and take up a
collection in a bucket-sized trash can that was labeled "Kyle Turley's
Defense Fund." It was a story that has been told before about Kyle, on the
football field, in the class room and in Turley's personal life. "This is
not a thing about me being a bully or being a showboat," Turley said. "I'm
not out there to intentionally hurt anyone." |
7-foot RM Struggles After Off Season |
After a poor performance and injury last year
as a junior, 7-foot Florida State reserve center David Anderson is
trying to get back to the level of play he had as a sophomore. The
season after returning from an LDS mission to San Diego, California,
Anderson started 17 games, blocked 44 shots and was considered one of
the better defensive centers in the ACC. Now he's trying to recover
from a disastrous junior year that left him labeled as the team's
biggest question mark. |
Staley Named MWC, National Player of the Week |
For the second consecutive week, (and third time this season)
BYU junior running back Luke Staley has been named the Mountain West
Conference Offensive Player of the Week. In addition, Staley was selected as
the Sporting News Nissan Frontier National Player of the Week. The Tualatin,
Ore., native racked up 172 yards and four more touchdowns on Saturday,
leading BYU to a 41-34 win over Wyoming. The win assured BYU of at least a
share of their second MWC Championship and improved the eighth-ranked
Cougars' season record to a perfect 10-0. |
Sports: Additional Golfer Identified, Clearwater Out of PGA Tour |
Mormon News has identified an additional Mormon
golfer, Dean Wilson, who plays on the Japanese PGA tour, and is
currently ranked 70 in the World Golf Rankings, the only Mormon
golfer so ranked. Subscriber Brent Romney also noticed that Mormon
football player Byron Frisch is back on the field, after the Dallas
Cowboys picked him up in late September. But the week also brought
news that Keith Clearwater failed to make the next round of the PGA
qualifying tour, putting him off the tour next year. |
