RM Looks for Personal Best Despite Wrestling Program Turmoil |
Returning from an LDS mission to Chile, Justin
Ruiz started wrestling competition Monday in the Nebraska-Omaha Open
as Nebraska's starter at 197 pounds. But in addition to getting back
into wrestling after two years, Ruiz finds he must also face the
remaining turmoil in the 9th-ranked team after a scandal forced the
resignation of coach Tom Neuman while Ruiz was on his mission and
fans who are looking for a replacement for Brad Vering, the 2000
National Champion at 197 pounds. |
Staley Earns Second Straight National Player of the Week Honor |
BYU running back Luke Staley was named the CNNSI National
Player of the Week and Mountain West Conference Offensive Payer of the Week
after leading BYU to a 24-21 victory over Utah on Saturday,scoring 14 points
in the final 3:22 of the game. The win improved BYU to a perfect 11-0 on the
season and secured the Cougars' first-ever outright MWC title. BYU is the
first-ever MWC team to finish the league schedule with a perfect 7-0 record. |
