LDS Books among those at auction (Morgan library to auction 5 first-edition books)

MORGAN, UTAH -- Some of the Morgan County Library's past early purchases have turned out to be good investments, as well as providing needed resources for the community. Five booksin particular, all first editions of notable works, have become valuable enough that the library no longer circulates them. Now the library has decided to sell these books, and use the proceeds to purchase cheaper editions of the same books that can be circulated.

The five books include four books of Mormon interest:

* The late former LDS Church Historian Leonard J. Arrington's "Great Basin Kingdom,"

* "The Gathering of Zion: The Story of the Mormon Trail" by Pulitzer Prize winning author Wallace Stegner,

*"The Fate of the Persecutors of the Prophet Joseph Smith," by N.B. Lundwall, a book which was later shown to be based on false and misleading research, and

*The only second edition among the books, "City of the Saints: And Across the Rocky Mountains to California," by the English explorer and writer Richard F. Burton.

The library is selling the books by silent auction. Thoese interested in bidding must submit a bid by December 3rd to the library at Morgan County Library, Box 600, Morgan, UT.
