Young gives student reporters a press conference (NFL Quarterback Hosts Online Teen Press Conference)

LDS sports star Steve Young was scheduled to hold a simultaneous online and satellite-feed TV press conference for junior high and high school journalists at 6 pm PST last night. The press conference gave students at more than 250 schools and youth organizations the chance to ask Young questions on "Drugs in Sports," the topic of the event.

Because of his Mormon upbringing and following Mormon health practices, Young is conisdered 'a walking, talking advertisement for the virtues of a drug-free life." Young avoids 'body and mind-altering substances,' according to the event's organizer, Sherry Sacino.

The event was sponsored by he White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign's Straight Scoop News Bureau, Sun Microsystems, OpenVoice, Athlete Direct, and Young's own Forever Young Foundation. Sun Microsystems hosted the event, which was available through the Young Zone, Athlete Direct, and Striaight Scoop News Bureau websites. Articles writen by the students as a result of the press conference will also be posted to the Straight Scoop News Bureau site.
